A Ukrainian citizen from Luhansk Oblast, who fought on the side of the so-called "Luhansk People’s Republic," was sentenced to 15 years in prison with property confiscation, Kyiv city Prosecutor’s Office reported via Facebook on Oct. 25. Informs NV.
The court found that in April 2022, while on Russia-occupied Kryshtalevyi, Luhansk Oblast, the man voluntarily signed a contract to serve as a rifleman in the so-called “LNR militia.”
He then relocated with other unit members for combat training at the Hirnyk military training center. There, he was issued an AKM-74 assault rifle and Russian military uniform.
Acting on behalf of different enemy units in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, the combatant participated in the seizure and patrolling of Ukrainian territories. He set up and reinforced checkpoints and helped fortify firing positions in those regions, according to the prosecution.
The prosecutor's office noted that in May 2023, during a battle with Ukrainian forces near Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, he “ceased armed resistance and surrendered his weapon.”
