Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, located in the Rostov region of Russia, has suspended its operations. Equipment damage was recorded after an attack, Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), reports. RBC-Ukraine reports.
"The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, located in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, has now suspended operations after the attacks," Kovalenko stated.
The Head of Ukraine`s Center for Countering Disinformation reminded that last year, the refinery processed an estimated 3 million tons of oil. The plant has the capacity to process 7.5 million tons, but attacks have prevented it from operating at full capacity.
Currently, the equipment is damaged.
Attack on Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery
The last known attack on the refinery occurred on the night of December 19th last year. As Yury Slyusar, acting governor of Russia's Rostov region, stated, a fire broke out at the Novoshakhtinsk refinery following the attack.
At that time, Kovalenko explained that the oil refinery in Novoshakhtinsk played a crucial role in Russia's defense industry.
On December 24th last year, satellite images appeared online showing the aftermath of the attack on the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery. The images and video showed that at least one fuel tank was destroyed during the attack.
