Russia launches 14 missiles and over 160 drones at Ukraine overnight: Air defense works

On the night of February 20, Russia launched 14 missiles and more than 160 UAVs against Ukraine. The drones attacked from five directions, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports. RBC-Ukraine informs.


According to the Air Force, the enemy carried out a combined strike using missiles of various types - air, ground, and sea-launched - against critical infrastructure targets in the Kharkiv region.


Russian troops used:

  • 14 missiles: cruise Kh-101/Kh-55sm from the Volgograd region, Kalibr/Iskander-K from the Black Sea/Crimea area, ballistic Iskander-M/KN-23 from the Voronezh region;

  • 161 drones: Shahed UAVs and drone imitators from the directions of Russian cities Millerovo, Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.


To repel the attack, the following were involved:

  • Aviation;

  • Anti-aircraft missile units;

  • Electronic warfare systems;

  • Mobile fire groups of the Air Force and the Ukrainian Defense Forces.


As of 10 a.m. Kyiv time, the Ukrainian military confirmed 80 UAVs being shot down in the Kharkiv, Poltava, Kyiv, Sumy, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions.


In addition, 78 drone imitators were lost locally without negative consequences.


As a result of the Russian air attack, the following regions were affected:

  • Kharkiv;

  • Sumy;

  • Odesa;

  • Kyiv.


Russian shelling of Ukraine

During the full-scale war, Russian terrorists regularly target Ukraine’s infrastructure, including civilian infrastructure. The enemy has also been carrying out nighttime drone attacks for an extended period.


On the night of February 19, the Russians attacked Kherson with aviation. As reported by Roman Mrochkо, Head of the Kherson City Military Administration, the enemy launched three guided aerial bombs at the city, one of which hit a multi-story residential building.


Furthermore, for the second night in a row, the enemy is attacking an energy facility in the Odesa region.
