Russia tries to sell stolen Ukrainian Grain to African countries - The NYT

According to journalists, the Ukrainian food situation is exacerbated by the threat of famine on the continent and the sharp rise in food prices. Also, as Politico reports, in the US have made it clear that they will not agree to the lifting of sanctions in exchange for the lifting of the Russian blockade from Ukrainian ports for the export of grain. Informs Ukraїne Today.

«No Russian blackmail will work. Lifting the blockade will be solved in other formats. I have already said that military convoys of partner countries for tankers can remove this issue», - Andrii Yermak writes in his Telegram.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has claimed that grain theft became part of the wider actions of Russians during the war against Ukraine. Those actions undermined Kiev’s ability to export crops wheat and have exacerbated the global food security crisis.

"There are messages which deserve trust, as we could see in one of the leading newspapers, about Russia stealing Ukrainian grain prepared for export... to sell it for her own benefit", – Blinken has said.

According to Blinken's words, by blocking export grain in Ukraine and using aggressive propaganda, Russia is blackmailing the world by exacerbating the food crisis.

«By this way Putin tries to achieve the lifting of the sanctions against Kremlin, but Russian Federation is the only one who contributes to the situation with famine getting worse outside Ukrainian border, especially the countries of Africa», - claimed Blinken.

In May the USA have sent letters to 14 countries, mainly in Africa, in which it was argued that Russia might try to sell Ukrainian grain to foreign buyers, as the newspaper The New York Times informs.

According to its information, the letters have been sent in the middle of May by diplomatic channels. "The USA have put 14 countries, mainly African, on notice. According to the claims of Washington, Russian ships left ports near Ukraine with what the State Department called "stolen Ukrainian grain" - as it said in the article.
