SSU: Ukrzaliznytsia employee prepared missile attack on railway line in northern Ukraine, Russian agent detained. PHOTO

The SSU CI foiled an attempt by Russia to inflict fire damage on strategic facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia in Chernihiv region. This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press centre.

As noted, as a result of a special operation in the regional centre, a Russian agent was detained who was preparing a missile attack on the railway line connecting the northern and eastern regions of Ukraine.

"Another potential target of the enemy was platforms for freight maintenance of rolling stock. To complete the enemy's task, the defendant had to check the occupiers' intelligence on the possible use of the railway line to move military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To do this, he covertly monitored the movement of trains, as well as recorded the directions of their routes and places of stops," the statement said.

According to the SSU, the agent was supposed to remotely transfer the data to his Russian supervisor in the form of coordinates of the railway line and rolling stock handling points.

The defendant planned to confirm this information with photographs of Ukrainian facilities.

The invaders planned to use this information to launch a missile attack on Ukrzaliznytsia's infrastructure to disrupt the logistics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

However, SSU officers prevented the transfer of the agent's "report" to Russian intelligence. This became possible due to the timely exposure of the traitor and his detention while performing an enemy task.

According to the investigation, the detainee was an employee of the local branch of Ukrzaliznytsia, an ideological supporter of ruscism.

Since last year, he has been an active participant in Russian Telegram channels and thus came to the attention of the occupiers.

During the search of the detainee's residence, the law enforcement seized a mobile phone and a tablet, which he used to communicate with the aggressor via messenger.

SSU investigators have now served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
