In July and August, Ukraine will receive another 100,000 rounds of ammunition as part of a Czech initiative, according to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky. Informs RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, 18 countries have now joined the ammunition initiative for Ukraine, and 15 of them have already fulfilled their obligations and made their contribution. This means that there are enough funds to deliver 500,000 pieces of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year.
"In July and August we will send another 100 thousand rounds of ammunition. We are now looking for money to buy even more ammunition so that the initiative can continue in 2025," Lipavsky said.
The Czech Ammunition Procurement Initiative is looking for artillery ammunition for Ukraine in countries outside the European Union. The first batch of 50,000 rounds of ammunition arrived in Ukraine some time ago. Czechia cooperates in this initiative mainly with the Netherlands and Denmark.
Czech initiative on ammunition for Ukraine
In February, at the Munich Security Conference, Czech President Petr Pavel said that his country had found hundreds of thousands of shells for Ukraine, but the project requires funding. Portugal, Finland, Germany, and Lithuania joined the initiative.
In late June, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced the delivery of the first batch of 50,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine.
Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the Czech ammunition was already helping Ukrainian troops, cutting the difference in shots fired with Russian troops by more than half.
